Dear Students and Families,
The students and I had another wonderful week of learning in fourth grade.
Reminders:
1.Buffalo P.R.D.E Meeting on Tuesday, September 7th at 6:00 in the Middle School Gym.
2.Fall picture day is coming up on Wednesday, September 15th.
3.Founder's Day coming up on Friday, September 17th. Thank you to those who signed up to work the booth. Our theme for the booth is “Crazy Cornhole Competition.” We are looking for a few items to be donated (folding chairs and a tent). We are also in need of some volunteers to come and decorate the booth. If you are interested, please send me an email or note and let me know which you are interested in.
This week we will be focusing on Compare and Contrast in Reading, multiplication and division concepts, arrays, area and problem solving in Math. In Social Studies we will be learning about the different Native American tribes in early Florida, and creating a clear focus statement and planning for Writing.
Reading Log: The new addition to our binder is the "Nightly Reading Log." Each night that the students are assigned reading homework they are to record the requested information into the log. Reading for 20 minutes is assigned on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. On Wednesday night the students should record the weekly reading story. Since there are four nights of recorded reading homework, students can earn up to forty points for the week. Students will lose ten points for each night that their reading is not recorded. Thank you for your support in the reading growth of your child.
Accelerated Reading: In order to be better stewards with our resources, the students are no longer receiving a printed A.R. report after each quiz. Please take advantage of the A.R. resources that are available online. Parents will need to sign up for the “AR Home Connect."
The website is: https://www.tvcsar.org/RenaissanceServer/HomeConnect/Login.aspx
This service will alert you through your personal email every time your child has taken an AR test and will provide you with the score of their test. Your personal account also lets you know what books your child has read since they've been involved with AR.
Finally, thank you for signing your child's planner each night and checking to be sure homework is done. Some assignments may not be a worksheet, so please be sure to check the planner as well.
Your children have been making excellent snack choices throughout the day! If any parent would like to donate extra snack to the classroom it would be greatly appreciated. As always, remember to send in a receipt for each item purchased so you will be awarded P.I. hours.
*We are looking for “treasure- box” volunteers. Every Friday I choose tickets for a chance to have a pick from the treasure-box. If you would be interested in sending in items for our classroom treasure-box please send in items that are no larger than the size of your hand.
*We are also in need of old, clean socks that the students can use as erasers for our new “Math Whiteboards.” This excellent math tool allows students to actively participate in our math lessons, as well as help me assess their understanding very quickly. Thank you for any donations!
Have a wonderful week!
Educationally yours,
Miss Miller
